Theme Panel Features Explained

The Total theme includes many great features/add-ons built-in that provide extra functionality but can be easily disabled if not in use to slim down the site a bit. Disabling features won’t make your site instantly faster because each feature runs very quickly, however, disabling features will slim down the WordPress dashboard so you don’t have to look at functions you aren’t using.

Under Construction

Adds a new panel at Theme Panel > Under Construction where you can select a page that will display to ALL non-logged in users which you can use while you build your site so people that visit your site won’t see what you are up to.

Recommended Plugins

The Total theme includes some premium plugins for free as well as it recommends various plugins it’s compatible with. If you disable this feature you won’t be able to see the notice for recommended plugins. If you have dismissed the notice you can disable the feature to prevent any code related to it from running. Of course after each update the theme overrides the option and re-enables it. Why? Because this function is also used to provide updates for the included premium plugins such as Visual Composer and Revolution Slider.

Schema Markup

Total includes support for schema markup throughout the site which is used for Search Engines such as Google. You can learn more about it here.

Minify Javascript

By default all the core Javascript files required for Total have already been pre-combined and compressed to speed up  your site. It is only recommended to disable this module if you have a javascript error on the site and need to do some troubleshooting.

Custom CSS

Total includes a Custom CSS panel you can use to add custom CSS to your site without having to use a child theme. If you are using a child theme we recommend disabling the panel and adding your Custom CSS to the child theme instead. Of course it can still be used for quick edits if you like.

Custom Actions

Enabled by default this function adds a new admin screen at Theme Panel > Custom Actions so you can insert HTML to ANY of the theme’s core action hooks. It’s a great way to add global content anywhere on your site.

Favicons

Enabled by default this function adds a new admin screen at Theme Panel > Favicons so you can define your site icon for desktop and iOS devices.

Portfolio

Enabled by default this adds a new custom post type called “Portfolio” to the site which you can use to add portfolio items but can also be re-branded for pretty much anything else you want.

Staff

Enabled by default this adds a new custom post type called “Staff” to the site which you can use to add staff members but can also be re-branded for pretty much anything else you want.

Testimonials

Enabled by default it adds a new admin page at Theme Panel > Custom Login so you can easily alter the design of your WordPress login screen. This will allow you to create a unique login page for your website so it doesn’t look boring and actually matches your site!

Custom 404 Page

Customizer Manager

Enabled by default it adds a new admin page at Theme Panel > Customizer Manager where you can enable/disable sections from the WordPress Customizer. You can learn more about this feature here.

Custom WordPress Gallery

Enabled by default the Total theme alters the main output of the WordPress “Gallery” to use the Total classes for the grid as well as to crop your images to the sizes as defined in Theme Panel > Image Sizes. If you are using other plugins to change your WordPress Gallery you should disable this to prevent any conflicts.

Widget Areas

Enabled by default this gives you the ability to create custom widget areas on your site. You can learn more about adding custom widgetized areas here. If you are only going to use the built-in sidebars/widget areas then you can disable this function.

Custom Widgets

Total includes various Custom Widgets that you can use on your site (About, Business Info, Facebook Page…etc). These are all enabled by default but you can disable all the custom widgets if you aren’t using them.

Category Thumbnails

Enabled by default Total includes the ability to add a thumbnail to your categories which will display as the page header background for any category as well as when using the Category Grid Visual Composer module. If you don’t want to add thumbnails to your categories you can disable this feature.

Remove Emoji Scripts

WordPress has support for Emoji icons – https://codex.wordpress.org/Emoji – which they added to the core in version 4.2. Most people don’t really use these and it adds a significant amount of extra code and scripts to your site so we disable it by default in the Total theme. If you want to re-enable it simply disable this function.

Image Sizes

Enabled by default this adds a new admin panel at Theme Panel > Image Sizes which  you can use to define your custom image cropping for various parts of the theme. If you prefer to use only the image sizes you upload you can disable the admin panel completely. Most customers will probably want to define image cropping sizes to help speed up their site.

Page Animations

Enabled by default this enables the Page Animation settings as explained in the following documentation article.

Typography  Options

Enabled by default, Total includes many Typography options in the Customizer so you can easily change the fonts, font family, font size, font weight…etc of various parts of your site (learn more). If disabled it will remove all the Typography Customizer settings and it won’t load any custom fonts on your site. If you want to tweak your fonts with the settings disabled you will need to use Custom CSS.

Post Edit Links

Enabled by default, this displays links at the bottom of your posts and pages so when you are logged in you can quickly edit them.

Header Image

Disabled by default. If you enable this function it will enable the core WordPress “Header” section in the Customizer so you can give your main site header a custom background image.

Import/Export Panel

Enabled by default this function adds a new admin screen at Theme Panel > Import/Export so you can easily import, backup or export Customizer settings.

Visual Composer Theme Mode

Enabled by default Visual Composer Theme Mode disables a tab in the Visual Composer settings for adding your purchase code. If you have purchased your own copy of the Visual Composer we recommend disabling this so you can activate your copy of the Visual Composer plugin.

Total Visual Composer Modules

Enabled by default the Total theme includes TONS of new modules to the Visual Composer which you can use to build your pages. If you are using another plugin such as Visual Composer Extensions and don’t wish to use the Total modules you can disable them.

Remove Google Fonts

Disabled by default. If you enable this feature it removes all the Google Font options and Google fonts loaded by the Total theme. This was a requested feature by customers in countries such as China where they can not use Google hosted Google Fonts.

Remove Post Type Slugs (Experimental)

Disabled by default. When enabled it will remove the post-type slug from the URL from the portfolio, staff and testimonials post types. For example if a link to one of your portfolio items is site.com/portfolio-item/your-item when enabled it will become site.com/your-item. Whenever you enable this function you MUST re-save your permalink structure at Settings > Permalinks to prevent any 404 errors. It is an experimental feature because this is not the way custom post types are intended to be used and can cause conflicts with standard posts, categories, tags, images…etc, resulting in 404 errors or strange redirections. Use with caution.
